Who are we
Uniting for Prosperity and Wellbeing is a network of Canadians who understand that the governments of Canada have yielded for almost half a century to powerful interests in creating a tax system that shelters wealth and creates massive inequality in our country. They are convinced that these policies of sheltering wealth are ruining the country. Day after day, they see how poverty grows, inequality worsens, and infrastructures experience ever-greater decay, when substantial taxation of wealth would make possible a fair tax system and spending that nurtured economic activity across our country.
Uniting for Prosperity and Wellbeing is based in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and led by Dr. Ernie Epp, Professor Emeritus of History at Lakehead University. Ernie Epp served his community and country as New Democratic Party MP for Thunder Bay-Nipigon (as it was at the time) during 1984-88. He campaigned on a fair taxation platform in 1984! Among his current responsibilities, he chairs the Christian Outreach and Social Action Committee of Cambrian Presbytery, United Church of Canada. As such, he attends the semiannual meetings of the Social Justice Network of the Ontario Conferences, United Church of Canada. This Website was conceived at the 26 November 2014 meeting of the Network, following a presentation on behalf of the Interfaith Social Assistance Reform Coalition.
Uniting for Prosperity and Wellbeing is supported by the Thunder Bay members of the network. They manage the blogs in which Canadians from coast to coast to coast are encouraged to provide instances of ruination in their province and/or territory that result from the financial stringencies created by the Federal Government’s failure to tax properly and share these resources with the other jurisdictions.
Ernie Epp’s involvement with Poverty Free Thunder Bay gives him a keen appreciation of many of the economic and social issues arising across the country. Acts of charity are not enough! Food banks should not be needed!
The Website created by Canadians for Tax Fairness is a valuable resource for everyone concerned about these issues. Uniting for Prosperity and Wellbeing focuses the policy need and the economic, as well as social, reasons for fair taxation of Canadians.
